Summary

Since 27 March 2024, the Scheldt Delta has been recognised as a UNESCO Global Geopark. This designation underscores the region’s exceptional geological and landscape value, as well as the importance of cooperation and sustainable development. The aim of the Interreg project (Be)Leefbare Schelde is to shift tourist pressure away from the coast towards inland areas, and to expand the region’s tourism offering in a sustainable way.

Contributions of the RBINS-GSB as science partner:

  • develop and implement geological storylines in the Geopark
  • develop geotrails that connect gateways of the Geopark with geosites
  • build an Augmented Reality Sandbox for the Rupelklei Museum in Rumst.
