Welcome to the

Geological Survey of Belgium

Founded in 1896, the Geological Survey of Belgium (GSB) is a key geological and mineralogical research centre developing both applied and fundamental research approaches. It is also an independent, non-commercial provider of geoscientific services. These services are oriented towards local, regional, federal, European and international authorities, as well as researchers of institutions/universities and research groups, private companies, NGO’s and citizens.

The Geological Survey is part of the Institute of Natural Sciences (RBINS) under the Operational Direction Earth and History of Life. The Institute of Natural Sciences is one of the federal research institutes that reside under Belgian Science policy (Belspo).

Network

The GSB is the central Earth sciences research and documentation centre in Belgium, with a strong national and international network. We maintain many partnerships with research institutes, universities, government organisations and other stakeholders, and we are member of several expert networks. In particular, the GSB is partner in the creation of a Geological Service for Europe through the EuroGeoSurveys organisation. The European Geological Data Infrastructure (EGDI) is a key tool in Pan-European data integration.
