Land subsidence workshop (Brussels, RBINS-GSB)

The Land Subsidence Workshop (13-14 November 2025) organised by LASII (UNESCO working group), GSEU project of EuroGeoSurveys and hosted by the Geological Survey of Belgium (RBINS/GSB) has been a success allowing more than 60 scientists from all around Europe to discuss and present case studies areas in several European countries.

Why a workshop on Land Susbidence ?

  • Land subsidence requires adaptation strategies (worst case)
  • Land subsidence requires mitigation strategies (intermediate case)
  • Land subsidence requires prevention strategies (best case).

It needs a properly planned approach based on scientific knowledge and data availability.

The aims of the workshop are:

  • disseminating the state-of-the-art of scientific advances regarding understanding the drivers of land subsidence, monitoring subsidence and modelling its processes,
  • sharing knowledge on data availability,
  • establishing a broad network among European land subsidence experts and delegates of the EGS-network,
  • improving the transition of state-of-the-art knowledge on land subsidence into management and planning tools, services and regulations.

The program of the workshop conferences is visible on the LASII webpage.
